Scribble Drawing & Painting Process Video
Scribbling with a crayon or marker or oil pastels is a great way to just loosen up and get the juices flowing. It can be interesting to try it with your non-dominant hand too. This can also be a somatic process where you are more focused on how it feels in your body than what it looks like. Most children can easily jump into drawing without any guidance or instruction. They know how to just experience the process itself with curiosity and joy. Don't be surprised if this process brings up the inner critic, because we were often taught at a yound age that we have to make a nice picture or we are wasting materials. But this is activating our intuitive right brain, which has huge benefits in and of itself. This can be done with nearly any drawing and painting media, but in order to get the resist effect in this video the paint needs to be fairly fluid, so craft acrylics have to be watered down a bit, but tempera and watercolor work very well. Most of all I encourage you to explore lines, shapes and color for their expressive and emotional qualities alone.
