![]() Are you ready to explore the deeper terrain of your soul? What if you could use simple drawing and painting techniques that bring through a level of insight and wisdom that talking and words hasn't reached? After decades of talk therapy from both the client's 'couch' and the therapist's chair, I finally realized that the same issues kept coming up for me and the people I work with. I was very useful in offering comfort and companionship during the rocky parts of my inner journey, but I found I just wanted to discover what really made me tick. That is when divine intervention introduced me to a simple process of visual journaling that began to move through the firewalls that my cognitive mind had built. With this simple process, that in no way requires one to be artistic, I found a way to explore the path of my Soul. It can be a little intimidating at first and sometimes we encounter some resistance because we are trained from a young age to rely primarily on words for learning and understanding. But our soul communicates more in feelings and images, even for those who feel they are not creative. The reason that images, colors and the simplest symbols can be such powerful doors to our inner awareness is that they flow from the right side of the brain, which is more intuitive, visual and musical in nature. Words and language, however, arise via the left brain, which is much more verbal and analytical. So the real magic of visual journaling is that it brings these two faculties together to explore who we are in a more holistic way. Yet for most of us, yes even artists, we haven't really allowed ourselves to experiment and play with visual processes even a fraction as much as writing and talking. So this is where it gets juicy! If we start with even a little scribble in our notebook and then start writing, the words seem to flow from a deeper place. I invite you to take a little time in your day or evening to play a little with me in my new, free online, Visual Journaling mini-course, that shares three simple techniques to get you started. And most of us even have the basic materials around the house already or can easily get them at a local store. So give it a whirl and see how it feels. If it sparks some interest in you there is a half off special if you register in July for my 4 week, self-paced, Drawing from the Unconscious course. But make sure you check out the free mini-course first. Happy whole-brain exploring!
